Week 5 Reflection!

This week, I learned that it is very important to exhibit learning  objectives in your lessons. It is important because it guides students as they work throughout the lesson or course. Also, assesses the student's progression and knowledge that they gained through learning. Effective learning objectives can establish a guide for students when preparing & reviewing assessments. Learning objectives are also effective when they are both significant to the teachers & students. The ABCD (Audience, Behavior, Conditions & Degree) Formula is extremely important to remember when it comes to writing or creating lesson plans. - Helps to identify what the students will be able to accomplish after the instruction is given. - Provides a clear picture of the instruction    *Include these 4 aspects into the         learning objectives! - Determine how the students will succeed    *When writin...

Week 4 Reflection!

This week in class, I learned about Bloom's taxonomy and DOK. Bloom's taxonomy is set up as a six level pyramid. This can be used to help you when planning a lesson or can serve as a teaching guide to teachers. The pyramid goes from the bottom up to the top, the levels are remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create. Remembering level - Recall facts and basic concepts  Understanding level - Explain ideas or concepts Applying level -  Use information in new situations Analyzing level - Draw connections among ideas  Evaluate level - Justify a stand or decision Create level - Produce new or original work  On  the other hand, the DOK is a wheel that has four levels: 1. Recalling - involves recalling information, such as a fact or term. 2. Skills/concepts - involves limited application of skills and concepts.  3. Strategic thinking - Deep understanding as exhibited through planning. 4. Extended thinking - Prolonged thinking to solve au...

Documentation can include teacher's comment on a child's work, things they are still working on or anything that shows what the child has learned at this point of the year.  Forms of documentation: 1. Portfolios    2. Panels Portfolios:   Portfolios can  encourage students to take more ownership and responsibility over the learning process . Portfolios are a way for students to critique and evaluate their own work and academic progress. They also get to decide what will be included in their portfolios. For example, a writing that they completed after reading a given story. Self-Identity Panel The Reggio Emilia project style provides the students with more freedom in the process of learning. This type of learning gives children the opportunity to investigate & explore an area of  interest.  Documentation for Reggio schools consists of children's work and artwork posted on the walls around the classroom with photos of th...

Week 2 Reflections!

This week in class, we went into more detail with rubrics, checklists, and rating scales. I also learned the importance of observation and how to make a rubric correctly. I learned that there are three different types of rubrics, holistic, single-point, and analytic. Making a rubric is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Holistic rubrics are the most general kind of rubrics that have 5 levels of performance. These rubrics do not provide targeted feedback to students but are easier for teachers to create. Single-Point rubrics break down components of an assignment into different criteria and there is less time to create. The areas and levels of concern and distinction are without specified limits. Analytic Rubrics separate their characteristics of an assignment into parts. This gives students a more clear picture as to why their assignment is what it is and the reason why they got the score that they did. This week we got the opportunity to create our own rubrics in a group, based ...

Week 1 Reflection!   I learned a lot of valuable information throughout the first week of classes. The first week I learned about the Cycle of Assessment. The cycle consists of four different topics: Teaching, Gathering & Assessing Students' Work, Interpreting Evidence & Identifying Outcomes, and Reflecting for Change & to plan for improvement. This process is continuous throughout the school year & is never  interrupted! Very important to know when you're a teacher or becoming one. This cycle outlines: The steps for how to assess your students' learning, the overall success of the students', and the curriculum. Types of Assessments: 1. Formative Assessment     2. Diagnostic Assessment   3. Summative Assessment 1. Formative Assessments ex: Exit Ticket * Great way to document students' learning, check for understanding & emphasize main points in the lesson * Straight forward focus on objective goals          * The...
